Sixth person questioned in Bristol Waste fraud case
Police confirm a man in his 50s is the latest to be interviewed
Avon and Somerset Police have questioned a sixth person in connection with alleged fraud at a West Country Recycling Centre.
Officers are investigating allegations that former staff at Bristol Waste took payments to misreport the amount of waste being brought into the Avonmouth depot.
The force confirmed that a man in his 50s was the latest to be interviewed voluntarily.
Last September police said a man in his 40s and another in his 30s had attended voluntary interviews and the force confirmed in February that three more people had done likewise.
A constabulary spokesperson has now added: “We have now voluntarily interviewed a total of six people and enquiries continue.
“A man, in his 50s, was the latest person to be interviewed.”
Bristol Waste and the council have been assisting officers with their investigation.
The company previously said it took immediate action to tighten up security at the depot in Kings Weston Lane after the allegations came to light in 2020 and that it handed over all potential evidence to police.
When the probe was revealed at a council meeting last year, then-deputy mayor Craig Cheney said the local authority was helping with enquiries and that it expected the company to “continue to remain vigilant and take immediate action where necessary” against suspected fraudulent activity.
