Police seek wanted man who failed to return to HMP Leyhill

Public urged not to approach Andrew Sheriff, 50, who is serving a custodial sentence for rape

Members of the public are being warned not to approach a wanted man who has failed to return to prison in South Gloucestershire.

Andrew Sheriff, 50, is currently on day release from HMP Leyhill where he's serving a custodial sentence for rape.

He was due to return to the prison at 4pm yesterday but failed to turn up.

He is described as a white man, approximately 5ft 6ins tall, with short, dark hair. He also has a number of tattoos including a panther head, swallows, a centaur and a rose.

He was last seen wearing a red t-shirt, New York Yankees coat, blue jeans, black and orange trainers, black glasses and wearing black gloves.

He is known to have links to the Leicester area.

Avon and Somerset Police say he should not be approached, and that anyone who does see him should call 999.
