Police launch investigation over unexplained death of woman
They were initially called out to a welfare concern in the city before discovering the woman at an address in Bath
Investigations continue today into the unexplained death of a woman in the West Country.
Avon and Somerset Police were called to Bennett Street in Bath at just before 8:30am on June 18th over welfare concerns for a man.
Following work from the public, fire crews and police officers, they then attended an address in Upper Lansdown Mews, where they found a woman in need of urgent medical care.
Despite their best efforts, the ambulance crew were unable to save her.
Police have arrested a man in his 80s.
He's been detained pending further investigation and the results of a forensic post mortem examination.
Officers have not yet formally identified the woman who died, who is in her eighties, but have informed her next of kin.
The investigation is in its early stages - but detectives ask people avoid speculating or posting any footage or images online while they establish the facts.
Officers say they are keen to hear from anyone who saw or has any dashcam or other footage showing an older man with a rucksack walking between Upper Lansdown Mews and Bennett Street, or on scaffolding in Bennett Street, between 8am and 9am on Tuesday 18 June.
