Police are appealing for witnesses after a collision on Beggar Bush Lane, Bristol which happened just before 2.30pm yesterday afternoon. It involved a police horse and rider and a blue Ford Focus.

Both the police officer and the car driver, a man in his 70s, were taken to hospital but are not thought to have serious injuries.

However, the horse is seriously injured and is being treated at a specialist equine hospital. He doesn’t yet have an official name, but his stable name is Rocky and is a five-year-old chestnut Irish Draft cross. The horse was on patrol with his stable-mate Platinum. Neither Platinum nor his rider were hurt.

Beggar Bush Lane was closed while the vehicle was recovered.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police on 101.
