Police in Bristol have been given more time to question a man on suspicion of murder, after a woman fell from a block of flats.

The 25-year-old victim was pronounced dead in the early hours of Tuesday (19 April) after falling from Lansdowne Court in Easton.

Avon and Somerset Police revealed earlier this week that the arrested man, who is 43, knew the victim.

The woman has not yet been named as formal identification has not been completed, but her family has been told and they are being supported and kept up to date by specially trained officers, the police say.

Chief Inspector Deepak Kenth said: “We’d like to thank everyone who has provided information to us so far, your help is very much appreciated.

“We’d also like to thank the local residents for their understanding and patience while we carry out our enquiries.

"Additional patrols will be continuing to provide further reassurance.”

The woman was found fatally injured at the base of the building after a member of the public called the police.

Emergency first aid was carried out but she could not be saved.

When announcing the news Chief Inspector Kenth said he knew it would cause "a great deal of concern" to nearby residents.

Anyone who has any information about what happened and has not already spoken to police is asked to call 101 and quote the reference number 5222091832.
