New grants announced for Bristol's culture and events businesses
Bristol City Council hope nearly £7 million in funding can boost the arts and creativity
Bristol City Council has announced nearly £7 million in funding for the culture and events sectors, in part to help them recover from the coronavirus pandemic.
The money is being made available through grants from two separate funding pots; £2.4 million as part of its Cultural Investment Programme (CIP) and £4.7 million from its City Centre and High Street Recovery and Renewal programme.
The move is part of plans to boost the arts, and as councillor Craig Cheney says, nurture the city’s "national and international reputation as a creative cultural city."
The CIP will provide funding for organisations, festivals, events and artists, which the council hopes will make arts and culture more accessible.
This is the second running of this programme, and individuals or businesses can now apply for money.
The City Centre and High Streets Recovery and Renewal Programme will put funding of nearly £5 million towards cultural events and activities in Bristol’s centre and its high streets.
Grants of up to £100,000 are available as part of this project, and applications are also now being welcomed.
Councillor Craig Cheney, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet member for Finance, Governance and Performance, said: “Following an uncertain couple of years for the creative industries, it’s more important than ever that we continue to support arts and cultural activity in the city.
"Our grant programmes will support the recovery of the arts and culture sector and also businesses across the city centre and Bristol’s high streets."
