A man has been detained under the mental health act after assaulting three police officers in Bristol.

It happened on Sunday afternoon (02/05) at around 3pm on Wick Road in the Brislington and St Anne's area.

The police say they were initially called to reports of a man assaulting members of the public and kicking a dog, though no one was seriously injured.

While trying to arrest the man two Police Community Support Officers (PSCO) were assaulted with one suffering a head injury that needed hospital treatment.

The other suffered minor injuries, while a third was spat at. Members of the public helped to restrain the man during the incident and he was eventually arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

He was subsequently detained under the Mental Health Act and taken into the care of the mental health services.
