A man from Bath has denied the attempted murder of a woman in a stabbing attack and will face trial later this year.

Matthew Jones, 28, pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of Emma Kirk during an alleged incident in Dransfield Way, Bath, on February 26 this year.

But the defendant admitted the alternative offence of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

At Bristol Crown Court, Jones also denied a charge of having an article with a blade or point in a public place.

Sam Jones, prosecuting, said the pleas were not acceptable to the Crown and they would be seeking a trial.

The defendant, of Ivy Avenue, Southdown, Bath, was remanded into custody until his trial on September 2.

Judge Peter Blair KC, The Recorder of Bristol, told Jones: "Your trial remains listed as before. You will be remanded into custody until then."
