Bristol Water urges customers to watch water use as reservoir levels sink below 50%
It's after the government announced a “nationally significant” water shortage in England
Water companies in the South West are asking customers to save water, as the region manages a prolonged dry weather phase.
The total reservoir storage for the Bristol Water area is at 46%. On the same date in 2024, storage was at 69%.
The figures come after the government announced a “nationally significant” water shortage in England.
"We need to look at water in a different way, as a very valuable resource," said Richard Stanbrook, General Manager at Bristol Water.
"We've had an era where we've taken all of our resources for granted and I think climate change is making us re-think that."
Bristol Water has promised to invest millions into "future-proofing" infrastructure to prepare the region for increasingly dry weather and climate change.
"We all need to be better at adapting and treating the resource with better care across the board," Richard Stanbrook added.
"With 1.2 million people in Bristol, if you turn off your tap when cleaning your teeth, that saves 6 litres.
"Multiply that by 1.2 million - that's significant! Every little helps."
