Major delays on the M4 - after lorry carrying hay bales catches fire

There are severe delays on the M4 going westbound this evening after a lorry fire between Bath and Bristol.

It's reported the vehicle is carrying hay - and emergency services are on the scene dealing with the incident.

In a statement, National Highways South West said: "Traffic is currently held westbound on the M4 between J18 and J19 due to a lorry fire.

"The fire service is on scene dealing and National Highways Traffic Officers are assisting with traffic management. #Gloucestershire

"The Westbound carriageway is is closed and Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue are on scene tackling a blaze involving a lorry carrying hay bales.

"Preparations are being made to turn traffic caught within the closure."
