A community interest group, here in Bristol, are hoping to buy a new van as they face increasing demand from the cost of living crisis.

Mazi, who address food inequality in young people, have seen a 30 per cent increase in those asking for help since March 2023.

They hope a new van will help them double the number of people they reach through deliveries from 80 to 160.

From Sunday they will be displaying street art posters, in prominent locations around Bristol, to bring awareness to their campaign to raise £30,000 through crowd funding.

Melanie Vaxevanakis, Managing Director and Founder of The MAZI Project, sees the van appeal as a way Bristolians can get involved with a local cause, adding: “With the support of our community, we can make a significant difference in the lives of even more individuals. The new van will enable us to increase our meal deliveries, ensuring that no one goes hungry."

The campaign is a timely one, as disadvantaged youth across Bristol are having to make difficult decisions between paying for food and rent.

The project estimates 6,633 young people in Bristol suffered from severe to moderate food insecurity between 2020 – 2021.
