Firefighters tackle huge blaze in Thornbury

Firefighters from across Bristol have been tackling a blaze involving "multiple" lorries at an industrial estate.

Avon Fire Service were called to the industrial estate on Short way at 01:34 this morning (5 September).

Crews from Avonmouth, Thornbury, Patchway, Southmead, Temple, Pill, Nailsea, Chew Magna, Kingswood, Yate and Portishead attended the scene.

People living near Thornbury are being told to keep their windows closed and avoid the area around Short Way.

There are no reported injuries and everyone's been accounted for.

'Accidental ignition'

In a statement the fire service said: "24 firefighters wore breathing apparatus for safety during the incident.

"A full evacuation took place, and all persons were accounted for. There were fortunately no casualties.

"Some of our crews remain to dampen down any remaining hotspots and ensure the safety of the scene.

"The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental ignition."
