Owners of a restaurant in Bristol have said a blown extraction fan was behind a fire that closed a street in the city centre last night.

Diners were evacuated following the incident at Pizzarova on Park Street.

Photos shared to social media show fire crews in attendance and the road closed off.

In a message posted to Facebook, the restaurant said:

"Our extraction fan sadly blew up on us tonight mid service, everyone is safe and well but we'll be closed this weekend while we figure out which parts need replacing.

"Thanks to those eating with us for early dinner for your patience, to our team for dealing with it so calmly and for the boys in red for helping make sure everything was safe to go back in."

It is not though anyone was injured in the fire.

The restaurant has said it will post further updates on when it hopes to be back open again.

Avon Fire & Rescue have been contacted for comment.
