It's thought a fire in Bristol City Centre which forced the evacuation of a residential building in the middle of the night, was started deliberately.

The Avon Fire and Rescue Service was called to Marlborough Street at 12:02am this morning (14th January), with crews from Temple, Southmead, Bedminster, Hicks Gate, Kingswood and Portishead all attending.

On arrival they found a large amount of rubbish on fire, which was affecting the neighbouring building.

"Crews used three high pressure hose reels and one 45mm covering jet to extinguish the flames," a statement from the Fire Service reads.

"A thermal image camera and gas monitors were used to check whether the fire had spread."

One firefighter wore breathing apparatus for their safety, but there have been no reports of any injuries.
