Double-decker bus crashes into railway bridge near Bath

Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed engineers are continuing to assess the damage to part of a railway bridge in Bath, after a double-decker bus crashed into it last night.

Emergency services attended the scene just off lower Bristol Road in Twerton - shortly after 8:30pm (18 September).

In a statement the force said: “We were called shortly before 8.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 18 September) after a double-decker bus collided with a bridge in the Twerton area of Bath.

“The incident occurred just off Lower Bristol Road and there were no injuries reported.

"The road was closed to allow a structural engineer to assess any damage to the bridge, and for the vehicle to be recovered.

"Officers left the scene at 10.30pm once the road had reopened."
