A cyclist has died after being hit by a lorry in Bristol this morning (November 16).

The crash happened on Whitchurch Lane in Hengrove shortly after 8am, at the junction with The Boulevard.

In a statement Avon and Somerset Police say a woman in her 30s died at the scene.

"Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time," a spokesperson told us.

"They are being supported by a specially trained officer."

The road has been closed from the roundabout with Hawkfield Way to the junction with Barnfield and diversions are in place.

Those needing to access the community hospital, leisure centre or college on the estate can do so through The Bottle Yard Studios by speaking to an officer on the gate.

The South Western Ambulance Service sent two crews to the scene, while the Great Western Air Ambulance (GWAAC) and a doctor also attended.

Officers are now asking anyone who saw the crash or who was in the area at the time to call the police on 101 and quote reference number 5222275628.
