Commuters in Bristol found themselves casually wandering past a crocodile on their way to work this morning.

Photos shared online of the animal show it relaxing in an alcove above the water by Castle Park, in full view of Bristol Bridge.

Thankfully for all those nearby, it isn't real.

The sculpture is a piece of work from the artist Getting Up To Stuff, who has shared a video of it on their instagram. It appeared overnight into Thursday 5th September.

It's the latest saga in a long running story that a crocodile could be living in the River Avon, after a bus driver claimed to have spotted one, in 2014.

The driver was so sure of his sighting that he reported it to the police and it made national headlines, but no animal was ever found.

Earlier this year, a sign appeared by the Bristol Harbourside warning a croc could be in the water, a decade on from the driver's alleged sighting.
