Comments by former Bristol Rovers boss labelled 'vindictive'
ITV has responded to comments made by Joey Barton towards two female pundits
ITV's described remarks from former Bristol Rovers manager Joey Barton towards two of its female pundits as "vindictive".
Barton heard Eni Aluko and Lucy Ward during Thursday's FA Cup match between Crystal Palace and Everton, and compared them to serial killers Fred and Rose West.
ITV says the comments made by the ex-Manchester City and QPR player were "contemptible and shameful" adding that "football is for everyone".
ITV Sport said in a statement on X:
"For Joey Barton, an ex-professional player with a significant social media presence, to target two of our pundits, Eni Aluko and Lucy Ward, with such vindictive remarks based on gender and to invoke the names of serial killers in doing so is clearly contemptible and shameful on his part.
"Football is for everyone."
