Local Bristol street artist pays tribute to NHS to mark anniversary
An eye-catching mural will be on Marlborough Street, near the Bristol Royal Infirmary

To mark their 75th anniversary, NHS organisations in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire are collaborating with Hasan Kamil, a local Bristol Street artist.
A mural is being created as an opportunity to express homage to the NHS and the devotion of healthcare professionals.
Chair of the local NHS Integrated Care Board, Jeff Farrar said: “The Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire area is well-known nationally and internationally for its thriving street art scene so a mural was an obvious choice for us to mark the NHS 75th anniversary."
Throughout the first week of July (3-7), Hasan is creating an art piece to honour the accomplishments of NHS since its creation on 5 July 1948.
“This has been a great project to work on with such an inspiring theme," he said.
"The NHS is one of our country’s greatest achievements and I’m proud to have played a part in marking its 75th anniversary.”
Inspired by ideas and suggestions from local patients and staff, the painting showcases three main characters representing different periods of the service; a doctor from the 1950s, a modern-day hospital consultant and a mother and baby.
The painting will also include porters and community healthcare staff, the HMT Empire Windrush to symbolise the links of NHS staff to the Windrush generation along with other meaningful symbols.

The same illustration will be painted in the Women & Children’s Quarter at Southmead Hospital in the future.
