Several Bristol residents have been evacuated from their homes, after reports of an explosion which police have called "suspicious".

Just after 02:00 BST on Thursday 8 April, police, firefighters and paramedics were called to a home in the St Nicholas Road area, St Paul's.

Gas and electric engineers also attended to make the area safe, but no injuries have been reported at this stage.

According to Avon and Somerset Police, the evacuation is a "precaution", with an investigation into exactly what happened "ongoing".

The force added: "at this early stage, we are treating it as suspicious".

Our reporter James Diamond was there earlier:

People are now being asked to avoid the area, whilst emergency services tackle the incident.

It has since emerged the flat was placed on the market just last week (01/04). You can see the listing here.

Road closures have been implemented on St Nicholas Road and its junction with Grosvenor Road. A diversion route is currently running via Ashley Road.

Anyone with any information on what happened is now being urged to call 101.
