Bristol flats evacuated after ceiling collapses
Thankfully no one was hurt
A block of flats in Bristol has been evacuated this evening after the ceiling of its underground car park collapsed.
The Avon Fire Service was called to Portland Square in St Pauls at around 6:45pm.
In a statement shared with Greatest Hits Radio a spokesperson says around 40 flats were evacuated while the safety of the building, reportedly the Old Shoe Factory, was checked.
"The Services’ Urban Search and Rescue Dog, Buddy, and handler, Firefighter Tully, searched the collapsed underground car park," the statement reads.
"Thankfully, no one was found to be injured during the incident."
Residents were eventually allowed back inside.
In a post on X (formally Twitter) Ed Fraser, who also represents the Greens on Bristol City Council, called it a "dramatic night".
"Thanks to all the blue light services and Cllr Malik for being straight on the scene."
