A pedestrian has suffered 'potentially life-threatening injuries' in a fail-to-stop crash with a van earlier this morning.

It happened on Ilminster Avenue in Bristol, with police saying the man in his 70s from Knowle is now in hospital.

In a statement, Avon and Somerset Police said: "Police continue to appeal for witnesses and especially any dashcam footage after a pedestrian suffered potentially life-threatening injuries in a collision with a van on Ilminster Avenue, Bristol.

"The driver failed to stop at the scene and urgent enquiries are underway to trace them.

"Ilminster Avenue was closed near its junction with Tavistock Road and Connaught Road until about 1.20pm.

"If you saw what happened or have dashcam or any other footage of the collision, please call 101 and give the reference 5224014823.

"Alternatively if you have any information which could help you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously by calling 0800 555 111, or online at https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information."
