Bristol City Council to "continue to support residents" after tower block fire

Bristol City Council say their thoughts remain with the person who lost their life and their loved ones, following a fire at a tower block in Easton.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Twinnell House on Wills Drive, off Stapleton Road in the early hours of Sunday morning (25 September). The fire was on the top floor.

The flames were quickly extinguished but one person died in the incident. A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that it is believed that "the man fell after he climbed out of a window trying to escape the fire".

Bristol City Council say they are working with police and the fire service to investigate what happened and will continue to offer support to all residents.

"Following the fire at Twinnell House in Easton last night, our thoughts remain with the person who lost their life, and their loved ones.

"We are working with Avon and Somerset Police and Avon Fire and Rescue Service to investigate what happened, and continue to offer support to all residents."

Eight people were taken to hospital – seven for treatment for smoke inhalation and another for minor burns – while three others were treated by the ambulance service at the scene.

Around 90 residents were evacuated and a rest centre was set up at St. Nicholas Of Tolentino RC Church, Lawfords Gate. The Council have confirmed that this has now closed:

"Most residents have been able to return to their homes, and we have offered alternative accommodation and support to those who cannot."
