How could Bristol be improved after the pandemic?

That's what the City Council is asking.

They're urging residents to take part in a survey called "Your City, Our Future" and want to hear from Bristolians who feel they've been worst impacted by coronavirus.

They say the project seeks the views and ideas from citizens and community groups from across the city, with all responses set to feed into Bristol’s COVID recovery plan.

"This the survey intends to find out how people’s lives have changed and what can be learnt from how people have travelled, worked and spent leisure time over the past few months," a statement from the Council reads.

It's said a Citizens Assembly is being planned as a result for the turn of the year, which they're calling it a "once in a lifetime opportunity" to shape a better future for Bristol.

More than 3,000 people have taken part in the survey so far.

Councillor Asher Craig, Deputy Mayor with responsibility for Communities, said: “The COVID-19 pandemic has caused great disruption to people’s lives and livelihoods.

"The health and economic impacts have fallen unequally and often hardest on people who already face disadvantage.

"While the lockdown restrictions have presented citizens with major change and disruption, this has also given people new perspectives on what the future could look like.

"For far too long the social, racial and economic inequalities that exist in our city has drowned out the voices of the most disadvantaged.

"We need to break this endless cycle and drive forward Bristol’s recovery by delivering a once in a lifetime chance for citizens to help the city propel forward its plans to deliver a fairer, healthier and truly sustainable city post recovery.”

The survey is set to close on 9 September 2020.
