Bristol City Council cabinet member stepping down to join consultancy firm

One of the cabinet members at Bristol City Council is leaving her role to take a job at a private consultancy firm.
Helen Godwin will leave her post as cabinet member for Women, Families and Children to join PwC, but will remain a back bench councillor for Southmead.
A statement put out by the council says she will specialise in "government and health sectors" at the firm.
Councillor Godwin herself has called serving on Mayor Marvin Rees' cabinet "a joy and a privilege".
"I am immensely proud of the work we have done to improve children’s services including recognition for our foster carers and working to secure better outcomes and opportunities for our children in care," she said.
“I look forward to continuing to support Marvin and the cabinet from the back benches and to continuing to represent my ward of Southmead on Bristol City Council.”
Mayor Rees has thanked Cllr Godwin for her "commitment, professionalism and integrity".
"She has put excellence and compassion at the heart of all she has done, and shown tremendous energy in delivering for women, young people and families in Bristol," he said.
"She put her deeply held values front and centre to her role as one of our city leaders.
“We all wish Helen the very best for this next chapter in her and her family’s life. I am sad to lose Helen from the Cabinet but recognise it is a great opportunity for her to share her skills with even more people and organisations across the country.
"She will be a huge asset to PwC.”
During her time on the cabinet Cllr Godwin launched Bristol's first Children's Charter calling on businesses to protect the best interests of children.
She also helped develop the Period Friendly Bristol scheme aiming to end period poverty in the city and lately has been a member of the We Are Bristol History Commission, set up after the toppling of the Edward Colston statue.
The council say an announcement on who will replace her on the cabinet "will be made shortly".
