Bath has been named the greenest city in the UK, based on a mix of recycling rates, air quality and the number of nature and park attractions.
The research has been carried out by the skip hire company ReliableSkip.com and is based on data from the government, TripAdvisor and the waste data company WasteDataFlow.
Each city is scored out of 100 with Bath registering 87.79 thanks to a recycling rate of 59.2 percent, an average air quality rating of 3.12 out of 10 (one being the best) and 3.33 parks and nature attractions per 10,000 people.
Commenting on the findings, Paul Bennett, Operations Director at ReliableSkip.com, said: “While we can all do our bit to help keep the UK, and the world, green, through methods like recycling, it’s imperative that this is also enforced and encouraged in the public eye.
"This is why it’s interesting to see the difference some cities have in their waste management, with some cities doubling others on the amount they recycle.”
Canterbury came second on the list with an overall score of 87.54, with Chester third.
The Cheshire city scored 81.99.
Canterbury scored better for nature and park attractions compared to Bath but worse for recycling and air quality, while Cheshire is better for air quality but worse for recycling and green space.
The top ten is as follows:

- Chester
- Inverness
- Winchester
