Ashton Gate will host the 2020 Heineken Champions Cup final.
Bristol Sport - the group which owns the Bristol Bears, Bristol City Football Club and the Bristol Flyers basketball team have announced the news - saying they are "delighted".
Exeter Chiefs will face Racing 92 for the biggest prize in European club rugby on Saturday 17 October at 4:45pm.
It will be the first major final the stadium will host since its redevelopment.
Managing director Mark Kelly said: “It’s a great honour for our venue to host the Champions Cup final and we look forward to welcoming two fantastic teams to BS3.
“Although it’s bitterly disappointing to not be able to host supporters, it’s a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase the world-class facility at Ashton Gate to a worldwide television audience.
“The vision of the stadium has always been to host international events and we’re proud that this will be realised next month. It’s testament to the hard work of everybody in our community who are working tirelessly to put the city of Bristol on the sporting map.”
It comes as the Bristol Bears have made it into the final of Europe's second tier competition, the Challenge Cup.
They will play Toulon for the trophy in that, at the Stade Maurice David near Marseille in France on Friday 16 October at 8pm.
