Armistice Day 2025: The services taking place across Bristol and Bath
Events and services will be taking place across the region
A two-minute silence will be observed at 11am across Bristol and Bath to commemorate Armistice Day (11th November).
Events and services will be taking place across the region, to mark the time and date when the World War One armistice came into effect.
Arnos Vale Cemetery, Brislington
Arnos Vale Cemetery is inviting the public to the Great War Memorial in Soldiers’ Corner - the resting place of over 240 servicemen.
The ceremony begins at 10.50am, with a two-minute silence at 11am to honour those who gave their lives in service.
The Great War Memorial was commissioned by the Bristol branch of the British Red Cross Society and unveiled in 1921.
An estimated 2,000–3,000 people attended that original unveiling and this ceremony continues this century-old tradition of honouring those who gave their lives in conflict.
The event will include readings from local organisations, prayers for the fallen read by the Reverend Pete Slee, and wreath laying by representatives of the Armed Forces.
Abbey Church Yard, Bath
A two-minute silence will be incorporated into a short Act of Remembrance in the Abbey Church Yard.
At 11.00am a Bugler will mark the start and finish of the silence to remember those who lost their lives in the service of their country.
Haycombe Cemetery, Bath
The annual Service of Remembrance takes place at Haycombe Cemetery on Armistice Day, at 10:45am on the grassed area between the Cross of Sacrifice and the Blitz Graves.
The service will pay tribute to all those who served, and those who lost their lives in the Bath Blitz in 1942.
There will be complimentary refreshments in the Hilltop Chapel after the service.
Gloucestershire Cricket Memorial Service
Gloucestershire Cricket will host an Armistice Day Memorial Service, starting at 10:50 in the Jack Russell Stand.
Representatives from both the Men’s and Women’s teams will take part in the ceremony, laying wreaths on behalf of the Club.
Eighteen Gloucestershire players lost their lives while serving in the First World War. The service will honour their sacrifice, as well as the dedication and bravery of all servicemen and women who have given their lives while serving their country.
Additionally, representatives of local Armed Forces groups from Gloucestershire and Bristol, will be present.
St. John's War Memorial, Whiteladies Road
Pupils and musicians from local schools will be joining local clergy for an Act of Remembrance by St John's War Memorial in Clifton.
Locals are being encouraged to gather at 10:45 at the memorial to remember those who gave their lives in the Great Wars and in conflicts across the world.
Other services are taking place at Holy Trinity Church in Combe Down, the Twerton War Memorial, Whitchurch War Memorial Garden, Somerset Square in Nailsea, St Mary's Church in Thornbury, and the Royal Victoria Park War Memorial in Bath.
