25th arrest in connection with Bristol Southport disorder
A man is his 30s has been detained on suspicion of violent disorder
A 25th person has been arrested in connection with disorder in Bristol on Saturday 3rd August.
Avon and Somerset (AS) Police say a man in his 30s has been detained today (13th August) on suspicion of violent disorder, after clashes between anti-immigration demonstrators and counter protestors two weekends ago.
The violence in Castle Park followed false reporting online that the suspect in the fatal stabbing of three young girls in Southport on Monday 29th July, is an illegal immigrant.
To date 10 people have been charged with offences in connection with the Bristol disorder, with enquires ongoing against the others.
Officers have released photos of several other people they would like to identify, which you can see here.
Two men who have already admitted their part in the disorder are due to be sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on Wednesday (14th August).
Daniel Russell, 47, of Church Road in Redfield, Bristol, and Mark Bowen, 40, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Bristol Magistrates Court last week.
Russell was arrested after detectives reviewed footage which showed him kicking a man. He was then later seen kicking out at other protesters and shouting at – and being aggressive towards – police officers.
Bowen was arrested after he was recorded verbally abusing both police officers and other members of the public.
Commenting on their guilty pleas, Deputy Chief Constable of AS Police Jon Reilly said: "Our message has been consistent ever since the disgraceful disorder we saw on Saturday: If you were involved in criminality, we will identify you and we will arrest you.
“The behaviour of these two men was completely unacceptable. Their actions caused distress and fear in our communities and that is something we will not stand for."
