16 month jail term after chase along Weston-super-Mare seafront
It happened during the force's Road Safety Week campaign
A rush-hour police car and helicopter chase along Weston-super-Mare seafront has resulted in a 16-month jail term.
Zachary Williams, 28, from Caerphilly, was spotted driving while disqualified on Friday November 24, just after 530pm.
After a police car and helicopter chase, he eventually stopped the car in the residential Milton Street and was found trying to hide in someone's garden.
Willimans, who admitted a number of offences including dangerous driving, was also ordered to pay £187-pounds and disqualified from driving for 3 years and 8 months.
After he pleaded guilty at North Somerset Courthouse on Monday 27 November, PC Marcus Cookson said: “Williams travelled at excessive speeds during rush-hour across large parts of Weston-super-Mare, including the seafront, in an effort to avoid arrest.
“Between pursuit-trained officers on the ground and NPAS’ skilled pilots, he was unsuccessful and will be sentenced in a couple of weeks’ time after an efficient investigation.
“It is pleasing to get another reckless motorist off the roads, especially as it coincided with Road Safety Week in which we have sought to raise awareness of dangerous driving.”
Williams admitted dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving with no insurance and failure to provide a specimen for analysis.
