A 12-year-old boy has been arrested by police in connection with the racial abuse and assault of a man in Weston Super Mare, shortly before a car was set on fire.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to Dunster Crescent at around 7pm on Monday night (2nd September) to reports of an altercation, before a further call at 10:29pm that someone had thrown an object at a parked car, which then caught fire.

A 34-year-old man and 37-year-old woman were arrested earlier this week. All three have been released on bail.

The 12-year-old was detained on suspicion of common assault and arson.

Chief Inspector Jonathan Murray said: “We continue to keep the victim updated and supported as our investigation progresses.

“If you were in the area at the time and saw anything – or have any footage – which could help our investigation, please contact us.”

Anyone who does is asked to call 101 and quote reference 5224232129.
