£300k boost to beat fly tipping in Bradford approved
The funding will pay for works to make sites blighted by fly tipping more secure.
Bradford Council’s Executive has approved spending £300,000 to boost the District’s efforts to stop fly tipping.
At a meeting this morning, the decision making Executive heard that the extra funding would lead to a wider roll out of CCTV cameras in fly tipping “hot spots” – including more rural areas of Bradford.
A report to the Executive said the extra cameras would make it easier to prosecute people who dump waste illegally.
The funding will also pay for works to make sites blighted by fly tipping more secure.
Although there have been a number of fly tipping prosecutions in recent years, work to tackle the menace is often hindered by the fact most fly tippers choose places that are isolated or not covered by the existing CCTV network.
The Executive also approved the spend of £40,000 emergency funding to repair Buck Mill Footbridge, which links Thackley and Baildon.
The bridge was shut in October due to damage to its boards, and it was initially feared that it could be another six months before the funding to make repairs was found.
Work to fix the bridge was completed last month after officers found cash in the Council’s General Contingency Budget.
