Bradford Addiction Clinic Expands Services Amid Rise In Demand
ONS figures show depression has doubled in the UK since the pandemic began.
A Bradford-based addiction clinic has expanded its outpatient services in response to heightened demand due to COVID-19.
The clinic says the pressures of lockdown have triggered a crisis for many people with opiate and alcohol addictions and their families. Existing addiction problems have escalated due the stress and isolation associated with the pandemic, and spending time in close proximity to family members under lockdown means loved ones have a higher chance of identifying the problem.
A significant proportion of people with addiction have been reluctant to seek treatment in hospital, therefore The BONDS Clinic is expanding its outpatient service - situated in an established GP practice in Bradford - which offers people a way to free themselves from their addiction in their own home.
Dr Amal Beaini, Medical Director at The BONDS Clinic, comments: “We recognise that COVID-19 has led many individuals with addiction, alongside their loved ones, to feel at breaking point with nowhere to turn. At a time when it is more challenging to be treated as an inpatient, through our expanded outpatient service situated in the Bradford GP practice, we aim to provide an accessible, proven treatment which provides reassurance and helps individuals get their lives back.
Our outpatient service offers individuals a greater degree of freedom and flexibility and allows them to immediately apply what they have learned and practiced in treatment to their everyday life. The enormity of the problem is unparalleled and we want to be able to help as many individuals as possible by opening our doors to the immediate catchment area and beyond”.
