Two men arrested after shooting in Leeds

Two men have been arrested by detectives investigating a shooting in Leeds.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder when officers executed a warrant at an address in Moortown in the early hours of this morning.

The arrest is in connection with an incident in Carlton View, Little London, which happened shortly before 10pm on Friday (23/4).

Officers were called to the scene and found a parked grey Volkswagen Polo with damage consistent with a firearm discharge. A 20-year-old man was found nearby with a minor injury to his arm that was believed to have been caused by a bullet. He was treated at hospital and released.

A 21-year-old man was arrested also on Saturday night on suspicion of attempted murder in relation to the incident. He has since been released under investigation.

The man arrested this morning remains in custody and enquiries are ongoing led by West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Marc Bowes said: “While our enquiries remain at a relatively early stage, we believe this has been a targeted attack on the occupants of the vehicle.

“The criminal use of firearms is always treated extremely seriously, and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances and bring those responsible to justice.

“We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information that could assist the investigation. We understand people may have reservations and might want to give any information anonymously to Crimestoppers.

“We appreciate that an incident of this nature this will cause understandable concern in the community and we are working closely with our colleagues at Leeds District to provide suitable reassurance to residents.”
