Two youths have been arrested by police responding to concerns over a rise in anti-social behaviour in the Borders.

Officers from Police Scotland's Special Initiative Team joined forces with the Scottish Borders Community Action Team on patrols in Kelso, Innerleithen and Peebles at the weekend.

As well as seizing alcohol from a number of young people, one boy was arrested for anti-social behaviour and another for assault.

A spokesperson said: "We will continue to work relentlessly to ensure there is no place for violence and antisocial behaviour in our communities."

It comes as a Tweeddale councillor speaks out amid concerns over an increase in anti-social behaviour in the area.

Trees planted in a Peebles park to honour the late Queen's Diamond Jubilee were vandalised; and youths - armed with "aerosol cans and lighters" - have also been seen "kicking in" doors in Innerleithen.

Marshall Douglas, who represents the area on Scottish Borders Council, is urging locals to report incidents when they happen.

"It's very disappointing," he told us. "It's not just the damage, it's the fear that this causes."
