The Scottish Borders has been placed on flood alert, following a day of persistent rain.

Environment watchdog SEPA warns the weather has the potential to cause some disruption to the transport network on Tuesday evening.

Wave overtopping is also possible along the coast - with a warning issued for the high tide in Eyemouth, which is expected to peak around 7am on Wednesday.

A spokesperson said: "Rain is expected to continue through Tuesday evening, but is likely to be heaviest in eastern Borders and in particular around coastal areas.

"Not all areas will be affected, but if the heaviest rain falls over urban areas or the transport network there could be localised flooding of low lying land and roads during Tuesday evening."

Anyone venturing out is being urged to remain vigilant, and stay clear of the sea walls.

A spokesperson for Eyemouth Coastguard added: "The situation is currently under close observation."
