Shortage of drivers blamed for decision to axe bus routes in Berwickshire
Local bus operator Travelsure is blaming a national shortage of drivers for its decision to axe a number of routes in Berwickshire.
According to Scottish Borders Council, services between Berwick, Eyemouth, Duns and Ayton will come to an end next month.
But the local authority says it's exploring all options to keep the area connected.
In a statement tonight (Monday), a council spokesperson said: "Local bus operator Travelsure has announced that it is to cease operation of some bus services in the Berwickshire area due to a national shortage of drivers.
"The services which are affected and will cease on October 24th are: Service 32 - Tweedmouth - Berwick - Paxton - Hutton - Swinton; Service 34 - Tweedmouth - Berwick - Eyemouth - Duns; Service 236 - Ayton - Eyemouth - Berwick; and Service 260 - Tweedmouth – Duns
"SBC is working with alternative service providers to maintain connectivity across the Berwickshire area and is exploring all options available to it."
We've contacted Travelsure for a response.
