A new thunderstorm warning has been issued for the Borders and North Northumberland, with the Met Office warning heavy showers are likely to lead to some travel disruption.

It comes after parts of England were battered by hailstones yesterday - with one Basingstoke resident describing his worry over the storm damaging his car - while Somerset experienced a "different scale" of rain.

The Yellow weather warning for our region is in force between 1pm and 8pm today (Wednesday).

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms will develop through this afternoon across much of central and eastern areas of Scotland, parts of central, eastern and southeastern England and southern areas of Northern Ireland, before easing during the evening.

"Where heavy showers develop, 15mm of rain could fall within an hour and possibly 25-30 mm in 2-3 hours where showers become slow moving, along with lightning and hail."
