A thunderstorm warning has been issued for the Borders.

The Met Office says it has the potential to cause disruption in parts of the region.

Up to 35mm of rain is expected to fall in some areas in just two or three hours.

It's expected to spread from Northern Ireland to southern Scotland this afternoon, before fading away later.

The Yellow weather warning, covering an area west of Kelso, is in place between midday and 9pm on Sunday (April 30th).

A spokesperson for the Met Office said some flooding is "likely", leading to some damage to homes and businesses.

"There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail," it adds, "leading to longer journey times by car and bus."

Delays to train services are also possible - although services on the Borders Railway have already been suspended between Gorebridge and Stow due to problems with the signals.
