Former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg is maintaining his not guilty pleas in relation to his upcoming domestic abuse trial.

At a hearing at Jedburgh Sheriff Court this morning (Monday), the 32-year-old's defence agent, Mat Patrick, revealed there have been some "quite intense discussions" in advance of the case calling "to ensure everything runs smoothly".

The trial is due to go ahead in the Scottish Borders on September the 10th.

As well as being accused of engaging in a course of behaviour that was abusive of his partner or ex-partner, Hogg, who gave an address in Hawick, is also facing a charge of stalking, and failing to comply with a court undertaking.

The offences are alleged to have been committed at addresses in Hawick, Exeter and elsewhere between 2017 and March this year.

Hogg was excused attendance at today's court hearing due to the offer of employment in France.

According to court papers, the rugby star is accused of engaging in a course of conduct which caused the woman fear and alarm, in that he did: repeatedly shout, swear and act in an aggressive manner; repeatedly accuse her of infidelity; repeatedly track her movements; monitor her communication with others; and repeatedly attempt to control family life.

The offence is alleged to have been committed at addresses in Bearsden, Glasgow; Hawick and elsewhere between January 1st, 2017 and March 31st, 2019.

Hogg has also been charged with sending messages threatening to harm himself as part of a course of behaviour which was abusive of his partner or former partner, at addresses in Hawick; Ottery St Mary, near Exeter; and elsewhere, between April 1st, 2019 and March 30th, 2024 - contrary to the Domestic Abuse Scotland Act; as well as breaching a court order not to contact her.

Hogg spent a night in the cells and appeared from custody at Jedburgh Sheriff Court last month when he pleaded guilty to breaching a court order by repeatedly contacting Gillian Hogg. Sentence has been deferred on that offence until the outcome of the trial.
