The Hogmanay bonfire and fireworks display planned to take place in Stow tonight (Tuesday) is being rescheduled.

It follows the cancellation of Edinburgh's famous street party amid concerns over safety, due to strong winds.

A Met Office Yellow - be prepared - weather warning remains in force until 11pm.

With gusts of up to 70mph forecast, organisers have this afternoon taken the decision to move the event - on the quoiting green - in Stow to 8pm on New Year's Day (Wednesday).

A statement added: "We hope as many people as possible can join us."

Over the border in Northumberland, the annual New Year fireworks display at Seahouses is still set to go-ahead at 6pm tonight.

Thousands of people are expected to descend on the coastal village's harbour to view the spectacle, after it passed an earlier safety check.

But anyone planning to travel to the event is being urged to check before they leave, with some delays on the East Coast Main Line due to the strong winds.

Meanwhile, a flood warning has been issued for Eyemouth - ahead of Wednesday's high tide.

Environment agency SEPA warns: "There is a risk of waves overtopping the sea defences at Eyemouth. Businesses near to the harbour and vessels moored within the harbour may be at risk.

"Flooding impacts are expected either side of tomorrow afternoon's high tide, between 1pm and 4pm."
