It follows a series of farm fires in and around Stow earlier this year. Both pumps from Kelso remained on scene at 7pm on Sunday evening.

Police probing a fire at a farm in the Borders, which led to the destruction of more than 200 bales of hay, say they've arrested a man.

More than two dozen cattle had to be rescued from a neighbouring barn after the blaze broke out at Stagehall Farm in Stow, around 11.30pm on March the 18th.

A 21-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident and released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date.

Speaking at the time, former NFU President Nigel Miller, who owns the farm, said: "We've been lucky, we got the cattle out from the shed next door, and penned them up somewhere safe for the night, although they had quite a lot of smoke to breath. So hopefully we're okay in that way.

"But the impact on feed stocks to get us through winter, and bedding - to a degree - is a worry now as well. One of the courts is also unusable.

"I just hope it doesn't happen to anyone else and, to whoever does it, it's just madness!"
