Borders Railway damaged after thief takes road-roller for a joyride

Police have sealed off an area around the train station in Tweedbank - after thieves stole a road-roller from a nearby construction site and took it on a joy ride before setting it on fire.
Part of the trackside fence was damaged during the incident, which is believed to have happened in the early hours of this morning (Thursday).
The vehicle was found ablaze in scrub at the side of a footpath, near Essenside Drive.
Network Rail teams are on site repairing the damage. And a section of the trackside path has been sealed off while officers examine the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.10am on Thursday, March 6th, officers received a report of a road roller on fire on Essenside Drive, Tweedbank.
“Enquiries have established the vehicle was stolen.
“The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”
