Thieves escape with £35k haul following raid on Borders engineering firm

An appeal's been launched for information after £35,000 worth of tools and vehicles were stolen during a raid on an agricultural engineering business in the Borders.

AB Wight Engineering says its new site, at the side of the A68 in St Boswells, was targeted by thieves overnight last night (Tuesday).

Among the items taken were a Toyota pick-up, a blue Transit, a 16ft trailer, generators, strimmers and even diesel from tractors.

It comes less than a fortnght after thieves stole 23,000 litres of heating oil from a fuel depot just up the road in Newtown St Boswells.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.10am on Wednesday, 10 May 2023, police received a report of a break-in at premises in St Boswells, Melrose.

"Enquiries are ongoing into the break-in and theft of vehicles and various tools and machinery from the premises."
