Man dies following incident at Spittal beach

Police have confirmed a man in his 70s has died after getting into difficulty in the sea at Spittal.
It's undersood the pensioner had been walking a dog on the beach at the Northumberland beauty spot when its ball entered the water.
Emergency services - including an air ambulance and Coastguard teams - were scrambled to the scene after the alarm was raised shortly before 3pm yesterday (Tuesday).
But the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The helicopter, which landed at Sandbanks, departed around 4.30pm.
A report, detailing the circumstances, is being submitted to the local coroner.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Just before 3pm yesterday (Tuesday), we received a report of concern for the welfare of a person near Spittal Beach in Berwick.
“Emergency services attended, where a man in his 70s was found to have gotten into difficulty in the water. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
“His next of kin have been made aware and are being supported by officers.
“There is not believed to be any third-party involvement in the man’s death and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”
