Disturbing images have emerged of another sheep-worrying incident in the Borders at the weekend.

A number of the animals had their faces ripped open in an attack at Wester Ulston Farm, near Jedburgh.

Five were injured and three had to be put down.

It happened around 7pm on Saturday, and is the latest in a series of similar incidents reported in the area this year.

In May, nine pedigree lambs - aged between six and eight-weeks-old - were savaged during a suspected dog attack in fields near the Shell petrol station in Jedburgh.

It was the third in the area in as many months, with two sheep killed at Over Thickside Farm, Jedburgh, in February, and 14 left for dead in a separate attack at Howden Farm in March.

Speaking at the time, local farm worker Robert Whittaker said: "All of these animals were unbelievably still alive when found. But due to the extensive damage we had no option but to euthanize every one."

Police have been alerted to the latest incident, and anyone with information is urged to contact them.

Sheep farmer Neil Sandilands said: "Somebody must know that their dog is out doing this destruction!"
