A 30-year-old man who sent a video of himself having sex with a woman to another person without her consent has been given a ten-month home curfew.

Michael McLennan - formerly of Galashiels and now living in East Ayrshire - committed the offence in April last year.

Depute fiscal India McLean told Selkirk Sheriff Court the couple had been in a relationship but it was ended by the woman.

She explained that in the early hours of April 15th, 2023, the woman received a message from McLennan which contained kisses and emojis. She did not reply and blocked the number.

Ms McLean continued: “A week later the woman received a message from a friend to say McLennan had sent a video of her having sexual intercourse with Mr McLennan.

“It showed her and Mr McLennan having sexual intercourse for a number of minutes. She confirmed that it was her and that it had been sent to other people. She contacted the police.”

In addition to the curfew, which means McLennan must stay at home in Auchinleck between the hours of 7pm and 7am, he was also given a two-year supervision order - preventing him from posting any images of his victim on social media; and banned from contacting her for five years.

McLennan, who insisted he had deleted her images, must also attend the Caledonian Men's Programme - a behaviour programme for men convicted of domestic abuse offences.
