The Justice of the Peace Court in Selkirk has been put on hold - after a swarm of bees invaded the town's Court House.

Offenders arriving to pay fines have also been turned away as hundreds of the insects could be seen inside an administrative area of the building, through a window facing onto the town's Ettrick Terrace.

More could be seen circling above the B-listed property, which also deals with Sheriff Court proceedings.

It's unclear whether they got into the main court room itself, but it's hoped business will be allowed to resume later today (Wednesday).

A spokesperson for the Scottish Court Service said: "In the interests of Health and Safety access to the Selkirk Sheriff Court due to bees in the building access is restricted.

"We are awaiting a bee keeper to visit today.

"Today the Justice of the Peace Court cases have been adjourned administratively and the Civil Court has been moved to Jedburgh."
