Police probe suspicious fire in Selkirk

A package left outside a property in Selkirk has been set alight - causing significant damage to the building's door.
Police are treating the incident in Shawburn Road as suspicious, and appealing to the public for information.
The delivery was left on a landing in the residential street around 1pm on Wednesday, September the 18th.
But, around 3pm, a witness noticed it was on fire and emergency services were contacted.

Detective Constable Claire White, from Police Scotland, said: “Extensive enquiries have been carried out, however, it remains unclear why this package was deliberately set on fire and who is responsible.
“We are appealing for anyone who was in the Shawburn Road area between 1pm and 3pm on Wednesday, September 18th, and may have noticed an unfamiliar person, or anything at all suspicious, to please get in touch.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2802 of Wednesday, September 18th, 2024. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
It's not the only case of wilful fire-raising being investigated by local officers last month.
Around 12.30am on Friday, September 27th, a car was deliberately set on fire at Braehead in Coldingham.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 0194 of September 27th.
