A police helicopter and sniffer dogs have joined the search for a man reported missing following a two-car crash on the A7 just north of Selkirk.

It's believed Shane Donnelly, also known as Shane Barr, may have been driving one of the vehicles when it was involved in the collision, near the Bridgelands Road junction, around 7.10pm last night (Tuesday).

A woman driving the second car was taken by ambulance to Borders General Hospital for treatment.

Inspector David Aitchison, of Police Scotland, said: "We are concerned for Shane's welfare, as we believe he may have suffered injuries, and is imperative that we trace him as soon as possible.

"Significant resources, including the police helicopter and dog branch, have been involved in searches of the local area and enquiries are continuing.

"Shane has links across the Scottish Borders and I am keen to hear from anyone who may have information about Shane's whereabouts. Please get in touch, as we need to ensure his safety.

"I am also appealing directly to Shane, if you are reading this, please let us know you are safe and well."

The aftermath of the crash was captured on video by passers-by.

Shane, who's 26 and from Galashiels, is described as being six feet tall, with brown hair and facial hair, and blue eyes. It is not known what he may be wearing.

The road was closed for around three hours while the wreckage was cleared and police examined the scene.

Video footage showed a white Ford Fiesta off the road in some bushes, with the vehicle's airbags deployed, while extensive damage was visible on the driver's side.

The crash happened near the large layby on the A7, to the north of Selkirk, on the road to Galashiels.

The smash happened just days after a fatal crash further down the A7, which claimed the life of a 75-year-old man and left a 52-year-old woman in hospital with serious injuries.

A black Suzuki Ignis and a red Vauxhall Grandland were involved in a collision just north of Hawick around 4.35pm on Sunday.

Anyone with any information on the latest crash is asked to call 101, quoting reference 3784 of January 14th, 2025.
